Bhagavathar is a term of respect in Indian culture, particularly in South India, referring to a performer or narrator of religious stories, often from Hindu scriptures. The most common association is with the Bhagavathar who performs Kathakali, a classical Indian dance-drama from Kerala. In this context, the Bhagavathar is the lead singer and narrator, guiding the audience through the epic tales by recounting the dialogues and actions of the characters. They are highly skilled in vocal music, mythology, and dramatic expression, using their voice and body language to convey the emotions and narratives.
