Bewertende

Bewertende is the present participle of the German verb bewerten, meaning to evaluate or assess. It can function as an adjective meaning “evaluative” and, when used as a noun, refers to a person who evaluates, such as a reviewer or assessor. The form is derived from bewerten plus the participle ending -ende and is widely used in everyday language as well as in academic and analytical contexts.

As an attributive adjective, bewertende describes the quality of statements, attitudes, or analyses that express an evaluation or value judgment. For example, bewertende Aussagen are statements that convey an evaluation, and eine bewertende Haltung refers to an evaluative stance. As a noun, the term can appear in the substantive form Bewertende, with the plural Bewertende or Bewertenden, to denote the people who perform evaluations. This usage is found in research or evaluative settings, for instance when discussing the role of the Bewertenden in a study or review process.

In discourse analysis and linguistics, bewertende Sprache describes language that encodes approval, disapproval, or other value judgments, distinguishing it from neutral or descriptive language. The term is closely related to, but sometimes distinguished from, Wertend, which carries a more strongly opinionated or judgmental connotation.
