Calculation of Betonmenge involves identifying all concrete elements from design drawings and plans, such as foundations, slabs, beams, columns, and walls. Each element’s volume is calculated from its geometry—length times width times height for prisms, or by dividing irregular shapes into simpler components. The volumes of all elements are summed to obtain the overall concrete quantity. Adjustments are then made for openings, voids, dowels, and embedded items, as well as practical factors such as waste, compaction, and formwork allowances.

Units and reporting: Betonmenge is usually reported in cubic meters. In German-speaking contexts the term is used in conjunction with plans, specifications, and quantity takeoffs. In procurement, the Betonmenge informs the bill of quantities (BoQ) and tender prices.

Modern practice frequently uses Building Information Modeling (BIM) and quantity takeoff software to extract volumes directly from 3D models, improving accuracy and consistency across design and construction phases.
