Beryllos is said to form in late-stage pegmatites and hydrothermal veins rich in beryllium and aluminum, commonly associated with muscovite, spodumene, and tourmaline.

Color varieties are described as colorless to pale green, blue, or yellow, depending on trace elements such as iron, chromium, manganese, or titanium.
