Benignus
Benignus is a Latin adjective meaning "kind" or "benign" and is occasionally used in biological nomenclature as a taxonomic epithet. In taxonomy, benignus (masculine), benigna (feminine), and benignum (neuter) appear in the names of some species to signal non-harmful or favorable traits, or to contrast with relatives that are more pathogenic or aggressive. The epithet agrees with the gender of the genus.
Origin and meaning: The form derives from Latin benignus, formed from bene "well" plus the suffix -genus,
Current usage: Today the epithet benignus is relatively uncommon and more often encountered in historical literature,
