Belmarks

Belmarks is a fictional coastal archipelago in the southern seas of Eldoria. The cluster consists of about fifteen islands, the largest of which is Belmark Major. The isles are separated by tidal channels and are characterized by rugged shorelines, peat bogs, and forested uplands. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cool summers, and high seasonal rainfall that supports extensive seabird colonies and kelp habitats.

Belmarks has a documented history dating back to early seafaring cultures in Eldoria. According to legend, the Belmark Lines—a network of sea routes used by traders from multiple islands—formed the basis of early inter-island exchange. By the 18th century, fishing and salt production were established, followed by small-scale cultivation in sheltered valleys. In the modern era, conservation efforts led to the creation of the Belmarks Marine Protected Area in 1998, and tourism policies since the 2000s emphasize sustainable visitation.

Administratively, Belmarks is governed as a single municipality within the Northshore Province of Eldoria. The resident population (roughly 3,200 as of 2023) is ethnically diverse, with Belmarkan as the traditional language alongside Eldorian as a common second language. The economy relies on fishing, mollusk harvesting, and ecotourism, with a growing emphasis on renewable energy and small-scale industry.

Notable features include the Belmark Lighthouse, which dates from the 19th century; the Boundary Stones, a historic marker set by early surveyors; and the Blue Trench, a marine reserve known for its diverse fish communities. The culture centers on sea-based festivals, rope-work crafts, and a tradition of coastal storytelling.
