Bellkokeissa

Bellkokeissa is a small municipality and town in the northern highlands of Nordmark, a fictional Nordic country. It sits along the Bellko River and includes several lakes. The municipality covers about 210 square kilometers and, as of 2023, has a population of roughly 3,900.

Geography and environment: The terrain consists of rolling hills, coniferous forests, and rivers and lakes. The climate is subarctic with long winters and a short growing season. The economy relies on forestry, small-scale agriculture, and tourism.

History: The area was sparsely settled in the 16th century, with growth accelerating after the 18th-century timber trade. Bellkokeissa became a separate municipality in the mid-19th century and has retained a rural character, with mills, farms, and a parish church.

Cultural and landmarks: Notable sites include Bellko Church (15th century), the Bellko Lake Museum, and a hilltop bell tower. The annual Bellk Weekend festival celebrates local crafts, music, and cuisine.

Transportation and education: A regional highway and rail link connect Bellkokeissa to larger towns. Local services include a primary school and a secondary school; healthcare is provided in nearby towns within a short drive.
