Beilun

Beilun is a district of Ningbo city in Zhejiang Province, China. It is located in the northeastern part of the Ningbo metropolitan area along the coast at Hangzhou Bay, and it includes a long maritime boundary that supports port activity and coastal industry.

The district is a key part of the Ningbo–Zhoushan Port complex, one of the world’s busiest port systems by cargo throughput. Beilun hosts substantial port facilities, including container terminals and bulk cargo yards, and serves as a major logistics and maritime services hub within the broader port network. The local economy is oriented toward port-related logistics, manufacturing, and marine industries, supported by industrial parks and related infrastructure.

Transportation and infrastructure are central to Beilun’s development. The district is integrated into Ningbo’s urban transport network, with road, rail, and maritime connections that link it to the rest of Zhejiang and to Shanghai and other Yangtze River Delta centers. Proximity to major bridging and highway corridors around Hangzhou Bay enhances regional access for both freight and passenger travel.

History and development in Beilun reflect its coastal and maritime heritage. From traditional fishing and shipbuilding activity, the area expanded rapidly with the growth of the Ningbo–Zhoushan Port and associated industrial zones from the late 20th century onward, transforming it into a modern coastal district within Ningbo.
