Beetasalpaajia
Beetasalpaajia is a genus of small, benthic invertebrates that was first described in 2019 by marine biologists from the University of Helsinki. The genus belongs to the family Salpidae, within the class Polychaeta, and is distinguished by its gelatinous, translucent body and a pair of feathery appendages that are used for locomotion and feeding. The name Beetasalpaajia reflects the location of its discovery, the Beta Sea, a temperate marginal bay of the North Atlantic, and the suffix “-ja” which in Finnish indicates plural or group.
Morphologically, individuals of Beetasalpaajia range from 2 to 4 centimeters in length. Their bodies consist of
Ecologically, Beetasalpaajia occupies the upper sublittoral zone, where it contributes to the carbon cycle by grazing
Research on Beetasalpaajia continues, with ongoing efforts to map its genetic diversity and to assess its response
