Beaverton

Beaverton is a city in Washington County, Oregon, United States, and part of the Portland metropolitan area. It lies about seven miles west of downtown Portland, in the western part of the metro area along Beaverton Creek and near the foothills of the Tualatin Mountains.

Settlement in the area began in the mid-19th century, and Beaverton was incorporated as a city in 1893. The city operates under a council–manager form of government, with an elected mayor and city council providing policy oversight and a city manager handling day-to-day administration.

Beaverton has a diversified economy anchored by Nike, Inc., whose world headquarters is located within the city. The area also includes technology, retail, and service companies. Transportation options include TriMet’s MAX Light Rail at the Beaverton Transit Center, multiple bus routes, and access to major roadways such as Oregon Route 217.

Education in Beaverton is provided primarily by the Beaverton School District, one of Oregon’s largest districts, which operates Beaverton High School and Westview High School among others. The city also offers parks, libraries, and cultural venues, with natural areas such as Cooper Mountain Nature Park providing outdoor recreation opportunities.

Beaverton experiences a Pacific Northwest climate with wet winters and dry summers. The city is known for its residential neighborhoods, suburban amenities, and growing cultural and commercial activity within the greater Portland region.
