Bayesilaisten

Bayesilaisten, or the Bayesians, is a term used in Finnish-language discourse to describe adherents of Bayesian epistemology and Bayesian statistics. Bayesians treat probabilities as expressions of rational belief and argue that, when new evidence is available, beliefs should be updated according to Bayes' theorem. This approach emphasizes coherent updating and quantification of uncertainty in reasoning and inference.

Core ideas include representing beliefs with probability distributions, using prior distributions to encode initial assumptions, applying the likelihood to the observed data, and deriving the posterior distribution as an updated summary of belief. Bayes' rule provides a normative standard for rational revision, informing inference, decision making, and model comparison across disciplines.

Bayesian frameworks are used for hierarchical modeling, model averaging, and uncertainty quantification.
