Baustand

Baustand is a term used in construction management to describe the current state of a project or a construction site at a given moment. It encompasses the degree of completion, the status of ongoing works, and the conditions on the site, providing a snapshot that can be used for reporting and planning.

In practice, the Baustand is documented in daily or weekly reports and is used by clients, contractors, and project authorities to monitor progress, coordinate activities, and manage risks. A Baustand typically includes information about completed construction elements, ongoing tasks, remaining work, material deliveries and inventories on site, equipment availability, and site conditions such as safety issues, weather, and access constraints.

Baustand is related but not identical to Baufortschritt, which describes the progress rate or percentage of completion over a period. The Baustand serves as Ist-Stand and is often compared with Soll-Stand (planned state) to identify deviations, schedule slippages, or potential problems. It may be documented in a Baustandliste or a Baustandsbericht and is frequently derived from sources such as Baustellenprotokolle, progress meetings, BIM models, and material management systems.

The concept is important for decision making, payment planning, and risk management, enabling timely adjustments to plans, resources, and timelines. It is, however, limited by update frequency, scope, and the consistency of terminology across parties; clear definitions and regular updates are essential to maintain its usefulness for stakeholders.
