In practice, bassdominated mixes emphasize frequencies roughly from 20 Hz up to 250 Hz, with sub-bass primarily 20-60 Hz and bass up to 100-250 Hz. This emphasis can produce a strong sense of weight and thump but may reduce midrange clarity and cause masking of other elements.

Usage and genres: Frequently associated with electronic dance music, trap, hip-hop, dubstep, and drum and bass, though the term can apply to any production where bass energy dominates the tonal balance.

Production considerations: Achieving bassdominated sound typically requires appropriate monitoring (subwoofers or bass-reflex systems), bass management, and careful mixing decisions such as using high-pass filters on non-bass tracks, controlling dynamic range with compression, and ensuring the bass translates across listening environments.
