Basishalslijn

Basishalslijn is a term used in Dutch-speaking fashion and pattern making to describe the base neckline line used in a bodice sloper or pattern block. It serves as a starting point from which neckline variations are drafted. The basishalslijn defines the general shape and depth of the neckline for both the front and back pieces and relies on standard measurements such as neck circumference, bust, shoulder width, and torso length. In pattern drafting, a basishalslijn is created from a basic bodice block; adjustments are then applied to achieve specific designs while preserving fit.

In practice, designers establish a basishalslijn for a given size and then define variants by altering parameters such as neck depth, shoulder slope, and curve. Common shapes associated with a basishalslijn include U-neck, V-neck, scoop, and bateau, while more specialized lines may be drafted by tweaking the armscye and front head opening.
