Bartholinféle

Bartholinféle refers to the Bartholin's glands, two small glands located on either side of the vaginal opening. These glands are responsible for producing a lubricating fluid that helps to keep the vaginal area moist and aids in sexual intercourse. They are pea-sized and are situated within the labia minora, near the posterior part of the vaginal introitus.

During sexual arousal, the Bartholin's glands secrete a mucus-like fluid that is thought to be important for lubrication. While the exact role of this fluid in sexual response is still debated among researchers, it is generally accepted to contribute to comfort and ease during intercourse.

Problems with the Bartholin's glands are relatively uncommon. The most frequent issue is the development of a Bartholin's cyst, which occurs when the duct of the gland becomes blocked, causing fluid to accumulate and form a swelling. These cysts can range in size from very small to quite large and may be painless or cause discomfort, especially if they become infected. If a cyst becomes infected and fills with pus, it is known as a Bartholin's abscess, which can be painful and may require medical treatment, such as drainage.
