Banzai
Banzai is a Japanese exclamation used to express joy, enthusiasm, or as a toast. Literally translated, "banzai" means "ten thousand years." It is often shouted three times in succession, similar to a cheer or a hurrah. The origin of the expression is rooted in wishing long life and prosperity to a person or a nation. It gained international recognition, particularly during the mid-20th century, due to its association with Japanese soldiers during World War II, where it was used as a battle cry. However, its contemporary usage in Japan is generally positive and celebratory. Banzai can be heard at events such as national holidays, sporting victories, or at the end of successful performances. It is a common expression of collective excitement and good wishes.
