A Bankart lesion is an injury to the labrum of the shoulder, specifically the anterior-inferior aspect. The labrum is a ring of cartilage that lines the rim of the shoulder socket, deepening it and providing stability to the glenohumeral joint. A Bankart lesion typically occurs when the shoulder dislocates, particularly anteriorly. During an anterior dislocation, the humeral head is forced forward, which can tear the labrum away from the glenoid rim.
