BYU-Provo, formally Brigham Young University–Provo, is a private research university located in Provo, Utah. It is the flagship campus of Brigham Young University (BYU) and is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Lords of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The institution traces its origins to Brigham Young Academy, founded in 1875, and was renamed Brigham Young University in 1903. The campus sits in Utah’s Wasatch Front, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City, and is one of the largest private universities in the United States by enrollment.
