BYD Company Limited, commonly known as BYD, is a Chinese multinational technology and manufacturing company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Founded in 1995 by Wang Chuanfu as a rechargeable-battery producer, BYD expanded into automotive and energy storage businesses. The company operates in three main areas: automotive, electronics, and new energy, and has grown into a major producer of electric vehicles and batteries.

In its early years BYD produced mobile and portable batteries for consumer electronics. It entered the automotive market in the 2000s and formed BYD Auto as its automotive division. BYD introduced its first mass-market plug-in electric car, the F3DM, in 2010, and has since expanded to battery-electric passenger cars, hybrids, and heavy-duty vehicles, as well as electric buses and commercial trucks. The company emphasizes in-house battery production and integrated energy solutions. A notable technology is the Blade Battery, a flat-format lithium iron phosphate cell design introduced in the late 2010s, used in various BYD vehicles and energy storage systems.

BYD operates through several subsidiaries, including BYD Auto, BYD Energy, and BYD Electronics. Its product lineup includes passenger cars and SUVs such as the Qin, Song, Tang, and Han lines, along with commercial vehicles and public transit buses. The company also markets energy storage systems and solar-energy products and supplies batteries and modules to other manufacturers in some markets.

BYD is listed on multiple stock exchanges, with shares traded on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen exchanges. It has a global manufacturing footprint, with production facilities and sales networks across Asia, Europe, North America, and other regions, contributing to its role in the electrification of road transport and energy storage.
