BPMNmallien

BPMNmallien is a fictional concept used in academic and educational discussions to illustrate how the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) framework might be extended to model processes that involve non-human actors and cross-domain collaboration. The term combines BPMN with a fictional or speculative element intended to denote alien or non-traditional participants in a workflow. It is not an established standard and is not endorsed by official BPMN bodies.

In the imagined BPMNmallien approach, conventional BPMN notation is augmented with additional constructs to represent non-human agents, autonomous systems, and inter-domain data exchanges. Typical additions might include new participant types, enhanced data linkage across organizational boundaries, and semantics that accommodate non-deterministic or autonomous task execution. The goal of these extensions is to explore how a single process model could coordinate humans, intelligent agents, robots, or external entities that operate with different goals or capabilities.

History and usage of BPMNmallien are confined largely to theoretical work, teaching materials, and speculative case studies. It is commonly cited as a thought experiment to discuss challenges in standardization, interoperability, data provenance, and execution semantics when non-traditional actors participate in business processes.
