BACB

The Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is a nonprofit organization that develops and administers professional credentials in the field of behavior analysis. It establishes certification standards, administers examinations, and maintains a registry of credentialed professionals. The BACB supports the use of evidence-based practices in applied behavior analysis and works with regulators, educators, and researchers to promote quality service delivery worldwide.

The BACB offers several certifications. The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Board Certified Behavior Analyst-Doctoral (BCBA-D) are for independent practitioners, the Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) is for mid-level professionals, and the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional credential. Each credential has its own prerequisites and scope of practice, but all reflect the core principles of applied behavior analysis.

Certification typically requires relevant education, supervised fieldwork experience, and passing a credentialing examination. For BCBA/BCaBA, providers must complete approved coursework, accumulate supervised fieldwork hours, and pass the BACB exam, followed by ongoing maintenance. Maintenance includes ongoing professional development or continuing education hours and adherence to the BACB's ethics code.

The BACB also maintains an ethics code guiding professional conduct and provides a credential verification service. It operates as a global organization with certificants in many countries and engages with stakeholders to support high-quality practice in behavior analysis.
