Azanulbizar

Azanulbizar is a major battle in J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendarium, described as part of the long-running conflict between the Dwarves of Durin’s Folk and the Orcs. It took place in the eastern reaches of the Misty Mountains during the Third Age, around the year 2799. The clash is recorded as a decisive engagement in the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, one of the pivotal conflicts shaping the northern regions of Middle-earth.

The combatants were the Dwarves of Durin’s Folk, led by Náin, and Orc forces commanded by Azog

Outcome and significance are that the Dwarves won a hard-fought victory, though Náin the king perished in

the
Defiler.
The
fighting
occurred
in
the
eastern
foothills
of
the
mountains,
with
heavy
close-quarters
combat
that
tested
both
endurance
and
martial
skill.
The
battle
is
notable
for
its
scale
and
for
the
heavy
toll
it
took
on
the
Dwarves
as
well
as
the
Orcs.

Dáin
Ironfoot,
Náin’s
son,
survived
and
would
later
rise
to
lead
Durin’s
Folk.
The
victory

curb
Orc
incursions
into
certain
eastern
territories
for
a
time
and
contributed
to
the
longer
arc

Dwarven
resilience
in
the
northern
realms.
