Avkommorötter is a term that refers to the root vegetables grown from the seeds of a previous generation of carrots. In essence, it describes the plants that result from sowing carrot seeds, as opposed to vegetative propagation methods, which are not typically used for carrots. The quality and characteristics of these avkommorötter are influenced by a variety of factors, including the genetics of the parent carrot plants from which the seeds were harvested, as well as the environmental conditions during cultivation.

Carrots are biennials, meaning they typically complete their life cycle over two years. In the first year, they develop their edible root.
