It is commonly found in the context of temple festivals, particularly in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where it plays a significant role in cultural and religious observances.

The practice of *avattavasta* involves the recitation of sacred texts, hymns, or legends, often accompanied by musical instruments like the *mridangam* or *thavil*. Performers, known as *avattavarkkar* or *avattavasta*, typically recite in a rhythmic, melodic style, blending poetry with devotional themes.
