Autosomites

Autosomites is not a standard term in mainstream genetics. In some discussions, especially in speculative or educational contexts, it may be used to denote individuals or populations whose inherited variation is considered to arise primarily from autosomal genes—the non-sex chromosomes—rather than from sex-linked genes. Because autosomes carry the majority of genetic information in most organisms, the designation is not widely adopted in formal classifications or textbooks.

Etymology-wise, autosomite combines autosome with a suffix used in forming taxon-like names. Its usage tends to be informal or hypothetical, and it is sometimes introduced in worldbuilding or thought experiments to distinguish autosome-driven inheritance from patterns influenced by sex chromosomes or other non-autosomal inheritance systems.

Genetic features described under the autosomite idea typically emphasize autosomal inheritance patterns. Traits are said to follow Mendelian autosomal patterns—dominant, recessive, or polygenic—with recombination and independent assortment occurring among autosomes. In such models, sex chromosomes might be treated as neutral with respect to the trait in question, or their influence is minimized. In reality, many traits are autosomal, but sex-linked, mitochondrial, and epigenetic factors can also play significant roles, so the term is rarely used to describe comprehensive genetic reality.

Applications and limitations include its occasional use as a teaching aid or in hypothetical discussions to separate autosomal from sex-linked inheritance. It does not correspond to a formal taxonomic group or a universally recognized classification. In real data analysis, autosomal variation is studied using population-genetics concepts such as allele frequencies, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and linkage disequilibrium.
