Autolubricatie, or automatic lubrication, is an engineered system that automatically supplies lubricant to machine components at predefined points and intervals. By delivering controlled quantities, it reduces friction and wear, prevents under- or over-lubrication, and extends maintenance intervals.

Systems are typically categorized into centralized lubrication systems and point lubrication approaches. Core components include a lubricant reservoir, a pump or pump unit, metering or distribution devices, a network of supply lines, and lubrication points such as bearings, gears, or chains. Control units may operate on time schedules or usage triggers and can be integrated with machine controls. Lubricants are usually grease for bearings and oil for gears or sliding surfaces.

Operation involves moving lubricant from the reservoir through the pump to metering blocks or distributors, which route the lubricant to each lubrication point in the intended amount. Progressive systems deliver lubricant in fixed portions through a series of metering blocks, while single-line or dual-line systems use networks tailored to point density and accessibility. The choice of grease or oil, viscosity, and delivery rate depends on load, speed, temperature, and environmental conditions.

Applications span manufacturing equipment, conveyors, machine tools, packaging lines, wind turbines, rail vehicles, and agricultural machinery. Benefits include reduced maintenance and labor costs, consistent lubrication leading to longer component life, reduced energy losses, and better environmental control due to minimized lubricant spill.
