Autohelivõimendid, often referred to as car audio amplifiers, are electronic devices designed to increase the power of an audio signal from a car's head unit or source to drive speakers. Without an amplifier, the signal from a car stereo is typically too weak to produce a clear and sufficiently loud sound through the speakers. Amplifiers take this low-level signal and boost it, allowing for greater volume, improved sound quality, and the ability to overcome road noise.

There are several types of car audio amplifiers, broadly categorized by their class. Class A amplifiers are known for their high fidelity but are inefficient and generate significant heat. Class B amplifiers are more efficient but suffer from crossover distortion. Class AB amplifiers are a popular compromise, offering good efficiency and lower distortion than Class B. Class D amplifiers are highly efficient and compact, making them ideal for subwoofers and systems where space is limited, though their sound quality can vary.

Amplifier power is measured in watts, often specified as RMS (Root Mean Square) for continuous power handling and Peak power for short bursts. When selecting an amplifier, it's crucial to match its power output to the power handling capabilities of the speakers to avoid damage. Amplifiers also come with various features such as input sensitivity adjustments, crossovers (to direct specific frequency ranges to specific speakers), and bass boosts. Installation typically involves connecting the amplifier to the car's power source, ground, and the head unit, as well as to the speakers.
