Autavia

Autavia is a model line of chronographs produced by the Swiss watch manufacturer TAG Heuer. The name "Autavia" is a portmanteau derived from "Automobile" and "Aviation," reflecting the watch's intended purpose as a reliable instrument for drivers and pilots.

The original Autavia was introduced in 1962, succeeding the Heuer chronograph series. It quickly gained popularity among motorsport enthusiasts and professionals. Early models featured a rotating bezel with a 12-hour or 60-minute scale, useful for timing laps or flights. The watches were known for their robust construction and legible dials, often incorporating striking color combinations.

Over the years, the Autavia underwent several design evolutions. Notable iterations include models with different dial layouts, case shapes, and movements, such as the Valjoux 72 and Calibre 11, Heuer's first automatic chronograph movement. The Autavia was also associated with racing legends like Jo Siffert and Mario Andretti.
