Austreibungsphase

Austreibungsphase refers to a specific stage in the process of childbirth. It is the second stage of labor, immediately following the dilation phase. This phase is characterized by the mother's active pushing efforts to expel the baby from the uterus and through the birth canal.

The onset of the Austreibungsphase is typically marked by the complete dilation of the cervix to 10 centimeters. The mother experiences strong, involuntary uterine contractions that, combined with her voluntary pushing, propel the baby downward. This stage can vary significantly in duration, often lasting from a few minutes to several hours. Factors influencing its length include the mother's experience with previous births, the size and position of the baby, and the effectiveness of her pushing.

During the Austreibungsphase, the baby moves through the pelvis and birth canal. The mother will feel an overwhelming urge to push, which she should follow to assist in the baby's descent. Healthcare providers closely monitor the baby's progress and the mother's well-being throughout this intense period. Once the baby is born, the Austreibungsphase concludes, and the third stage of labor, the delivery of the placenta, begins.
