Auringonsuoja, also known as sunscreen, is a topical product used to protect the skin from the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It is typically applied to the skin before sun exposure to prevent sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer. Sunscreens contain active ingredients that absorb or reflect UV radiation, providing protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) is a measure of a sunscreen's ability to protect against UVB rays. An SPF of 15 means that the sunscreen will allow the skin to be exposed to the sun for 15 times longer before burning than it would without the sunscreen. Higher SPF values indicate greater protection.

Sunscreens are available in various forms, including lotions, sprays, gels, and sticks. They can be physical (mineral) or chemical. Physical sunscreens contain minerals like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, which physically block UV rays. Chemical sunscreens contain organic compounds that absorb UV radiation.

It is important to choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays. Regular reapplication is necessary, especially after swimming or sweating, as water and sweat can wash away the sunscreen. Additionally, sunscreen should be applied at least 15-30 minutes before sun exposure to allow it to fully absorb into the skin.
