Augustinerkloster
Augustinerkloster, plural Augustinerklöster, refers to monastic communities of the Order of Saint Augustine (Augustinians) in German-speaking regions. These houses were part of the Catholic Church and followed the Rule of St. Augustine, combining contemplative life with communal work and preaching. Typical features include a church, a cloister, a dormitory, a refectory, a chapter house, and often a library. The monks or friars dedicated themselves to prayer, study, education, and care for the poor; many houses ran schools, hospitals, or charitable institutions, and some served as centers of preaching and learning in urban centers.
Founded in the High Middle Ages, Augustinerklöster spread across present-day Germany, Austria, and parts of Switzerland
Notable examples include the Augustinerkirche in Vienna, which originated from the imperial Augustinian monastery and remains
