Theoretical basis and definitions: AW relates to attentional capture and salience. It distinguishes between brief glances and persistent attraction that can interfere with or, in some cases, augment task performance. The degree of AW depends on stimulus salience, user goals, task difficulty, and context. AW is often framed as a spectrum rather than a binary effect, with its impact varying across tasks and environments.
