Atomsignal

Atomsignal is a term used in physics and engineering literature to denote the electromagnetic signal produced by atomic systems as they undergo transitions between energy levels or as their quantum states evolve coherently. In this usage, atomsignal encompasses optical photons from electronic transitions, as well as microwaves or radiofrequency signals associated with hyperfine or Zeeman transitions in atomic or ionic species. The concept is central to fields such as spectroscopy, metrology, and quantum sensing.

Physically, an atomsignal arises when atoms interact with electromagnetic fields and either absorb or emit photons, or when a quantum system's phase evolves in a detectable manner. In spectroscopy, the atomsignal forms spectral lines at characteristic frequencies. The term is sometimes used to describe the observable manifestation of atomic dynamics in a device or experiment, and its exact meaning can vary across subfields.
