Assetshud

Assetshud is a software toolkit that provides a real-time heads-up display for digital assets within development environments. It delivers immediate visibility into asset metadata, provenance, and pipeline state without leaving the editor. Assetshud overlays annotate assets as they are loaded or edited, helping teams track changes during iteration.

Core features include an on-screen overlay with asset name, type, size, path, and last modified; status indicators for import, optimization, and packaging; integration with version control to surface changes; search and filtering across the asset catalog; tagging and notes for collaboration; and quick actions such as reimport, annotate, or pin assets. Some implementations monitor memory impact and load times to help optimize pipelines.

Architecture typically comprises a lightweight client library and engine-specific adapters or plugins that render the HUD in the editor or runtime. It relies on a central asset database or the engine’s asset registry and communicates via events to reflect changes in real time with minimal overhead.
