Asellotans are a fictional species originating from the planet Xylos in the Asellotan system. They are an amphibious species, possessing both gill-like structures for breathing underwater and primitive lungs for terrestrial respiration. This dual respiratory system allows them to thrive in the diverse environments of Xylos, which feature extensive oceans, vast swamps, and humid, jungle-covered continents.

Physically, Asellotans are characterized by their smooth, iridescent skin, which ranges in color from deep blues and greens to vibrant purples, often changing hue based on their mood or surrounding light. They have elongated limbs with webbed digits, aiding in aquatic locomotion. Their heads are somewhat flattened, with large, dark eyes that provide excellent vision in low-light conditions, both above and below the water. A set of delicate, bioluminescent tendrils extend from their foreheads, believed to be used for communication and sensory perception.

Asellotan society is organized into communal pods, often centered around large, natural underwater caverns or dense aquatic vegetation. They are known for their peaceful nature and their deep connection to the natural world of Xylos.
