Ariège is a department in the Occitanie region of southwestern France. It is named after the Ariège River, which runs through the department, and it lies largely in the eastern Pyrenees. Covering about 4,890 square kilometers, it has a population of around 150,000. The prefecture is Foix, and the department is divided into three arrondissements: Foix, Pamiers, and Saint-Girons.
