Arhelons

The Arhelons are a fictional ethnic group and culture in a high fantasy setting, appearing in novels and role-playing game materials. They inhabit the northern highlands and river valleys of the realm of Valenor, though migration has spread communities to coastal towns.

The Arhelon language, part of the Arhelic branch, is agglutinative with a strong oral tradition; two main dialects are commonly noted: Boreli and Kestari.

The Arhelons are organized into autonomous clans that join in a Council of Elders for major decisions. Leadership is non-hereditary, typically elected among elders for fixed terms, with a High Planner coordinating defense, trade, and infrastructure.

They rely on timber, pottery, textiles, and river trade; mountain passes and ferries are critical infrastructure. Cultural life centers on seasonal rites, storytelling, and music; cedarwood architecture and stone foundations are common.

Traditions describe migration from eastern steppes to Valenor, followed by centuries of small-scale conflicts and inter-clan treaties. The most recent era features increased trade with neighboring peoples and cultural exchange, alongside occasional border disputes.
