Aramooran

Aramooran is a coastal city-state and cultural center in the western maritime region, located at the mouth of the Aram River. It has long served as a trading and scholarly hub and operates with a degree of autonomy within a regional federation. The name is used for the city and for nearby hinterlands.

Geography and population: The city sits in a crescent bay protected by stone breakwaters. The climate is temperate with wet winters. The urban core houses about 90,000 residents; including suburbs, the metropolitan area approaches 120,000.

History: Founded in the early second millennium by seafaring communities, Aramooran grew as a commercial hub. It experienced periods of expansion and reform, and joined a federation in modern times while preserving local institutions.

Governance and economy: Government is a mixed council of merchant delegates, guild leaders, and a federation-appointed governor. The economy centers on port trade, shipbuilding, glassmaking, and textiles. Major exports include seafood, salt, and finished goods.

Culture: The Aramoran language is common, with regional lingua franca elsewhere. Cultural life centers on the Tide Festival and the Market of Lanterns. Religious life is diverse but generally tolerant, with temples, shrines, and academies.

Notable features: The Dusk Gate, the Lighthouse of Nyr, and the Old Town Walls are landmark sites. The city connects to the region by ferry services and a ring road around the harbor.
