Aquifuges
Aquifuges are a phylum of extremophilic archaea characterized by their ability to thrive in environments with extremely high temperatures and low water content. Their name is derived from the Latin words "aqua" meaning water and "fugere" meaning to flee, reflecting their aversion to aqueous conditions. Aquifuges are obligate thermophiles, meaning they require high temperatures to grow, often flourishing in geothermal springs, hydrothermal vents, and hot deserts. They are also typically found in environments with limited or no oxygen, making them obligate anaerobes.
The cellular structure of Aquifuges is distinct, featuring unique cell walls that provide resistance to heat
