Aquiferen

Aquiferen is a coastal municipality in the fictional nation of Veridia, located on a broad tidal estuary where river and sea meet. It has about 26,000 residents and serves as the administrative and economic hub of the surrounding peninsula. The name reflects its long maritime heritage.

Geographically, Aquiferen sits at the mouth of the River Lys, protected by a breakwater and backed by marshes and reed beds. The temperate climate features mild winters and cool summers, and the nearby wetlands support diverse bird life. A nature reserve preserves habitats and supports ecotourism.

Historically, settlement began in the 12th century as a fishing village. It grew through timber and salt trade and, in the 19th century, added a deep-water quay that connected Aquiferen to regional networks. The late 20th century brought diversification toward services and logistics.

The economy combines fishing, aquaculture, port activities, and light manufacturing. The harbor handles regional freight and ferries, while a small industrial park hosts businesses. Tourism focuses on the waterfront, seafood, and the marsh ecosystem.
