Apulus refers to a historical region located in southern Italy, encompassing parts of modern-day Apulia (Puglia), Basilicata, and Calabria. The name derives from the Latin *Apulia*, which itself may have originated from the Oscan or Greek term for the area. During antiquity, Apulus was a significant cultural and political entity, inhabited by various indigenous Italic tribes, including the Daunians, Peucetii, and Messapians.
