Antirahapesu

Antirahapesu is the Indonesian term for the activities, laws, and policies aimed at preventing, detecting, and countering money laundering and related crimes. It is used to describe the national framework in Indonesia that seeks to curb illicit financial flows and terrorist financing, through both regulatory measures and enforcement actions.

In Indonesia, the AML framework is grounded in Undang-Undang No. 8 Tahun 2010 on the Prevention and Eradication of Money Laundering, together with implementing regulations. The key authorities include Pusat Pelaporan dan Analisis Transaksi Keuangan (PPATK), Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK), Bank Indonesia (BI), the police, and prosecutors. Financial institutions and designated non-financial businesses and professions are required to implement risk-based anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing measures.

Core elements of antirahapesu include customer due diligence (KYC), ongoing monitoring of transactions, identification and verification of customers, assessment of beneficial ownership, record-keeping, and reporting of suspicious or large transactions to PPATK. Financial institutions apply a risk-based approach, classify customers and transactions by risk, and perform enhanced due diligence on higher-risk cases.

Internationally, antirahapesu aligns with recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and Indonesia participates in regional and global cooperation to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. Compliance supports financial integrity and crime prevention, while also posing ongoing costs for institutions and raising questions about data privacy and proportionality.
