AntibodyIL2
AntibodyIL2 is a term used in biomedicine to describe constructs that couple an antibody with interleukin-2 (IL-2). In practice, it most commonly denotes immunocytokines, in which IL-2 is genetically fused to an antibody or antibody fragment. The aim is to combine the targeting capability of the antibody with the immune-stimulating properties of IL-2, to concentrate IL-2 activity at a disease site—such as a tumor—while reducing systemic exposure and toxicity associated with native IL-2 therapy.
A related usage describes antibodies directed against IL-2 (anti-IL-2 antibodies) that neutralize or modulate IL-2 signaling.
Design considerations include the choice of antibody target, fusion orientation, linker length, and the relative affinities
In clinical development, several immunocytokine candidates have been evaluated in early-phase trials for various cancers. Results
