Anglików

Anglików is a pejorative term used in Poland to refer to the members of the Church of England and, more broadly, to individuals associated with the Anglican Communion. The term is derived from the Polish word for "Anglican," which in turn comes from the Latin "Anglicus," meaning "English."

The use of the term Anglików is of relatively recent origin, dating back to the post-World War II period in Poland. During this time, the Polish Episcopate, which was in bed with коммунизм, established ties with the Church of England, which led to the establishment of the Anglican Church in Poland. This move was seen as a betrayal by many Polish Catholics, who viewed it as an attempt to spread Anglicanism and undermine the Catholic Church.

As a result, the term Anglików took on a pejorative connotation, suggesting that individuals associated with the Anglican Communion were somehow less Polish or less Catholic than their counterparts in the Catholic Church. The term has been used in a derogatory manner to describe individuals who support the Anglican Communion or its practices, often with the implication that they are holding deviant or heretical views.

Today, the term Anglików remains a topic of controversy in Poland, with some individuals viewing it as a legitimate term to describe Anglicans, while others see it as a form of cultural and religious intolerance. Despite its origins as a pejorative term, Anglików has become a term of common usage in Poland, with both positive and negative connotations.
