Digital information, on the other hand, is discrete, represented by distinct values, typically binary (0s and 1s). This discretization is essential for modern computing and communication.

The shift from analog to digital, often referred to as digitization, has revolutionized many fields. In audio, analog recordings captured sound waves directly, while digital audio stores sound as a series of numerical samples. Similarly, analog images captured light continuously, whereas digital images are composed of a grid of pixels, each with a specific color value. This conversion process involves sampling the analog signal at regular intervals and then quantizing each sample to a specific digital value.

While digital systems offer advantages like accuracy, ease of manipulation, and error correction, analog systems still hold relevance. They can sometimes provide a more faithful representation of a signal, especially when dealing with very high frequencies or subtle nuances. Furthermore, many physical phenomena are inherently analog, requiring analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) to interface them with digital systems and digital-to-analog converters (DACs) to translate digital output back into analog forms.
