Amplitudestabilized, also written amplitude-stabilized, refers to a property or design approach in which the output amplitude of a system is kept constant in the presence of disturbances, variations in input, or changes in operating conditions. This concept is applicable across disciplines, including electronics, optics, and metrology, wherever stable signal strength or power is required.

The core idea is feedback or feedforward control that senses the actual amplitude, compares it with a reference, and applies a corrective action to reduce the error. Common implementations include automatic gain control in radio receivers and audio equipment, where the gain is dynamically adjusted to maintain a steady output level; and optical intensity stabilization, where detectors monitor light power and modulators or pump sources adjust accordingly to keep constant optical output.

Typical components of an amplitude-stabilized system are a sensor or detector, a controller that processes the error signal, and an actuator that changes a controllable parameter such as gain, attenuation, pump current, or optical loss. Challenges in designing such systems include achieving sufficient bandwidth and stability, avoiding oscillations, and minimizing added noise.

Applications range from reliable communications and audio fidelity to precision metrology and laser systems, where stable amplitude improves measurement accuracy and a predictable response. Amplitudestabilization is often implemented alongside frequency stabilization and other control strategies to ensure overall system performance.
