Amirkabir

Amirkabir is a Persian name that most notably refers to two prominent uses in Iran: Amir Kabir, a 19th-century reformist statesman, and Amirkabir University of Technology in Tehran, named in his honor.

Amir Kabir (1807–1852) served as prime minister under the Qajar dynasty. He pursued modernization of administration, finance, education, and industry, and founded the Dar ul-Funun, Iran's first modern higher education institution. His reforms aimed to centralize authority, expand infrastructure, and reduce corruption. He faced political opposition and was executed in 1852.

Amirkabir University of Technology (AUT), commonly known as Amirkabir or Tehran Polytechnic, is a public research university in Tehran specializing in engineering and applied sciences. It began as Tehran Polytechnic in the 1950s and was renamed in honor of Amir Kabir after the 1979 Revolution. The university is regarded as one of Iran's leading technical institutions, with multiple faculties and a strong emphasis on research and innovation. Its alumni include numerous engineers, scientists, and administrators who have contributed to Iran’s technological development.
