Amhali

Amhali is a small coastal town in the fictional country of Talara, located on the Amhali River delta about 40 kilometers north of Talara’s capital. The town covers approximately 28 square kilometers and has an estimated population of about 12,000 as of 2020. The climate is tropical savanna, with a distinct dry season and a wet monsoon-like period that influences fishing and agriculture.

Amhali sits at the delta’s edge, where mangroves meet shallow shores. The flat terrain, connected by a network of tracks and a small harbor, supports a local fishing fleet and modest agricultural plots. History

Amhali formed around a fishing port established in the 17th century by riverine communities. It grew through inland trade routes and maritime connections with nearby islands. Colonial-era buildings in the town center reflect a blend of architectural styles, and the harbor has long been central to daily life and commerce.

Economy

The economy centers on small-scale fishing, fish processing, and salt production. Craft industries, such as mat weaving and wood carving, supplement household incomes. Surrounding farms produce coconuts, bananas, and root crops. Tourism has been modest but is rising, driven by the delta ecosystem and cultural events.

Culture and society

The town is inhabited by the Amhali people, who maintain a distinct dialect and traditional practices. An annual Harvest Festival celebrates fishing, reef stewardship, and community cooperation. Local cuisine emphasizes seafood, coconut flavors, and grilled fish.

Administration
