Amatérsky

Amatérsky is a Slovak adjective that translates to "amateur" in English. It describes an activity undertaken for pleasure or as a hobby, rather than for professional reasons or financial gain. The term is often used in contrast to "profesionálny" (professional).

An amatérsky pursuit is characterized by the individual's passion and interest in the subject matter. While amateurs may dedicate significant time and effort to their craft or activity, they do not typically earn their primary income from it. This can apply to a wide range of fields, including sports, arts, music, science, and crafts.

For instance, an "amatérsky športovec" is an athlete who plays a sport for enjoyment and personal challenge, not as a career. Similarly, an "amatérsky hudobník" might play an instrument or sing in a choir as a pastime, while their main occupation lies elsewhere. In photography, an "amatérsky fotograf" takes pictures for personal satisfaction or to document events, without intending to sell their work professionally.

The distinction between amateur and professional is not always absolute. Many individuals may start as amateurs and later transition into professional roles as their skills and opportunities develop. The term "amatérsky" emphasizes the intrinsic motivation and voluntary nature of the activity.
