Alumíniumtermelésre refers to the process of producing aluminum. The primary method for aluminum production is the Hall-Héroult process, an electrochemical reduction of alumina (aluminum oxide) dissolved in molten cryolite. This process involves passing a strong electric current through the molten electrolyte, which decomposes the alumina into molten aluminum and carbon dioxide. The aluminum metal, being denser than the electrolyte, collects at the bottom of the electrolytic cell, where it is periodically tapped off.

The raw material for aluminum production is bauxite, an ore that is mined and then refined to produce alumina. This refining process, known as the Bayer process, involves treating the bauxite with a hot solution of sodium hydroxide. The aluminum hydroxide precipitates out and is then calcined (heated) to form pure alumina. The energy-intensive nature of the Hall-Héroult process means that aluminum smelters are typically located in areas with abundant and inexpensive electricity.

Secondary aluminum production, or recycling, is also a significant part of the overall aluminum supply. This involves melting down scrap aluminum, which requires considerably less energy than primary production. Recycling plays a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact of aluminum consumption and conserving natural resources. The demand for aluminum has grown significantly due to its lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and recyclable properties, making it widely used in transportation, construction, packaging, and many other industries.
